Notes from the Last Row Season 1 Review: A Dark K-Drama

So, I finally got around to watching Notes from the Last Row on Netflix last night, and tbh, my brain is still trying to process what just went down. If you are tired of the usual predictable thrillers and want something that actually makes you think, this Korean mystery drama might just be your next binge-watch.

It is a short, crisp 6-episode series that doesn’t waste any time getting into your head. It is dark, psychological, and honestly, a bit unsettling in the best way possible. Definitely not your average time-pass watch.

What is the Story About?

The plot revolves around a literature professor who is kinda stuck in a creative rut. Enter a quiet, mysterious student with a massive talent for writing. The professor decides to take him under his wing and starts giving him private writing lessons. Sounds like a wholesome teacher-student vibe, right? Well, think again.

As the student starts writing his story, the lines between reality and fiction begin to blur. The professor gets completely obsessed with the boy’s narrative, and before you know it, their sessions spiral into absolute chaos. It is a classic psychological mind-game where you never really know who is manipulating whom.

Cast & Crew: Powerhouse Performances

The casting is absolutely spot-on. Having a legend like Choi Min-sik (yes, the Oldboy star himself!) lead the show is a massive win. He plays the troubled professor with so much depth, you can literally feel his desperation through the screen.

Our Honest Review: Worth Your Time?

Look, if you are expecting a fast-paced masala thriller with jumpscares and loud background music, this is not it. Notes from the Last Row is a slow-burn psychological drama. It is the kind of show you watch late at night with your lights off, letting the eerie atmosphere sink in.

The series is only 6 episodes long, so it doesn’t drag much, though the second half does get a bit heavy with all the philosophical talk. But the climax is totally worth the wait. It forces you to question human nature and how far people will go for their obsession. It is not a comfortable watch, but it is definitely a solid, thought-provoking piece of cinema. For me, it is a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
