Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi Review: Kalyan Ram’s Action Drama

So, Kalyan Ram is back, and this time he is sharing the screen with the legendary Vijayashanti. If you are a fan of high-octane mother-son drama mixed with classic Telugu masala action, Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi (2025) has probably popped up on your feed. Directed by Pradeep Chilukuri, this film tries to blend emotional family bonds with heavy-duty action. But does it actually deliver, or is it just another loud actioner? The Storyline: Cop Mom, Gangster Son

The plot of Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi is as classic as it gets. We have Arjun (played by Kalyan Ram), who wants to join the IPS. But due to some twists and turns of fate, he ends up becoming a “kind-hearted gangster.” Yes, the classic Robin Hood trope where the hero does illegal things but only for the good of the people.

The real twist comes with his mother, Vyjayanthi (Vijayashanti), who is an incredibly honest and principled IPS officer. Talk about awkward family dinners, right? Things get serious when a notorious terrorist named Pathaan enters the picture. He wants absolute revenge on Vyjayanthi for her past actions. Now, it is up to Arjun to protect his mother at all costs, even if it means putting their complicated relationship to the test. Will they survive the onslaught? That’s what the rest of the movie is about.

Cast & Crew: Who Shines and Who Doesn’t?

Let’s talk about the performances because that’s what keeps this movie afloat. Kalyan Ram brings his usual intense energy to the screen. He looks great in the action sequences and does a decent job with the emotional scenes too. But honestly, the real star here is Vijayashanti. Watching her play a powerhouse cop again is pure nostalgia. She commands every scene she is in, not gonna lie.

Saiee Manjrekar is there, but unfortunately, her character doesn’t have much to do other than being the love interest and appearing in a couple of songs. The supporting cast does a fair job, though the villain Pathaan could have been written with a bit more depth to make him truly menacing.

Our Review: Paisa Vasool or Time Waste?

Tbh, with an IMDb rating of 4.8/10, you might go in with very low expectations. But is it really that bad? Not really. It is a decent, loud, commercial entertainer. If you love old-school South Indian masala movies where the hero can beat up fifty guys without breaking a sweat, you will find this entertaining.

The first half moves at a good pace, introducing the characters and setting up the conflict. The emotional bond between Kalyan Ram and Vijayashanti is the highlight here. However, the second half kinda drags. Some of the action scenes feel a bit too stretched, and the logic goes completely out of the window in certain places. But the climax is actually quite engaging and brings a solid emotional payoff.

Is it a masterpiece? Absolutely not. But is it a decent time-pass watch with your family on a lazy Sunday? Yes, definitely. It has got drama, emotion, and enough action to keep you awake.
