Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff and Margot Robbie as Catherine? It sounded like a high-fashion perfume commercial waiting to happen. Now that it’s out, I have thoughts. Lots of them. Is it a masterpiece? Well, not really. Is it a wild, gorgeous ride? Absolutely.

But because of class, status, and society, their love is basically doomed from day one.

But here is the catch with the 2026 version: Fennell completely skips the second generation. No young Cathy, no Hareton. The film focuses entirely on the intense, obsessive relationship between the main duo. It is less about generational trauma and way more about pure, unadulterated obsession. It feels less like a classic literature adaptation and more like a dark, glossy thriller.

Our Honest Review: Hit or Miss?

Tbh, this movie feels like a beautiful, chaotic fever dream. It is incredibly stylish—every frame looks like a painting, which we pretty much expect from Fennell anyway. But underneath all that gorgeous cinematography, the emotional core feels a bit hollow.

Margot Robbie is great, but she feels a bit too modern for Catherine. And Jacob Elordi? He definitely has the brooding, towering presence for Heathcliff, but the script simplifies his character. Instead of the terrifying, complex anti-hero from the book, he comes off as a moody, handsome guy who just needs a therapist.

By cutting out the second half of the book, the emotional payoff is kind of lost. If you are a book purist, you might end up pulling your hair out. But if you just want a moody, gothic romance with gorgeous actors looking intensely at each other, this is a decent time-pass watch on a rainy weekend.

Verdict: 3/5 stars. It’s not exactly a mind-blowing paisa vasool cinema experience, but it’s a decent OTT watch for the visuals and the sheer star power.
