Honest Review: Is it Worth Your Time?

Not gonna lie, live-action anime adaptations usually turn out to be total disasters. But the Golden Kamuy team somehow knows exactly what they are doing. This sequel is a proper paisa vasool entertainer, Japanese style.

Kento Yamazaki is literally born to play Sugimoto. His chaotic energy is just perfect, and his chemistry with Anna Yamada’s Asirpa remains the absolute highlight of the film. The action scenes are brutal, bloody, and look incredibly cool. They didn’t tone down the weirdness of the original source material either, which is a huge relief.

That said, it does feel a bit long. The movie kinda drags a bit in the middle when they try to dump too much lore and character introductions on you. But once they actually reach Abashiri Prison? Oh boy, the climax is absolute fire. It’s non-stop, high-octane action that keeps you glued to the screen.
