Hunting Jessica Brok (2025) Review: A Decent Action-Thriller for Your Weekend Watch

If you love those classic “retired assassin gets pulled back into the game” kind of movies, then Hunting Jessica Brok (2025) might just be up your alley. It is a South African action thriller that does not try to reinvent the wheel, but honestly, it has enough punchy moments to keep you hooked. It is the perfect kind of film to put on when you just want to put your feet up, sip some hot chai, and watch things blow up.

The Storyline: Past Sins and Heavy Guns

The plot centers around Jessica Brok. To her neighbors in a quiet, sleepy South African town, she is just a regular single mother trying to get by. But obviously, there is a catch. Years ago, Jessica was a highly feared, cold-blooded special ops assassin who did the dirty work no one else could handle. She thought she had paid her dues and successfully escaped that dark life after a final, disastrous mission went sideways.

But as we all know in these movies, nobody ever really retires from the assassin business. Her past eventually catches up with her, and soon enough, she has to dust off her old skills to protect her family. It is a classic survival game where the hunters quickly realize they picked the wrong target.

Honest Review: Is It Worth Your Time?

Tbh, I went into this with very basic expectations, but it actually turned out to be a decent time-pass watch. Director Alastair Orr keeps the pacing quite tight, especially in the second half when the cat-and-mouse game fully kicks off. The South African backdrop gives the film a slightly different vibe compared to the usual Hollywood action flicks we get flooded with.

Danica De La Rey does a solid job as Jessica. She manages to balance the vulnerable, protective mother side with the absolute badass assassin side quite well. The action choreography is surprisingly neat—not too much shaky cam, so you can actually see the fights happening. On the downside, the plot is highly predictable. If you have watched John Wick or The Protector, you already know exactly how this story is going to play out. But hey, for a lazy evening, it is a total paisa vasool entertainer.
